After looking at some of the beautiful homes you have sold, how can someone like me, who does not know much about real estate and is just starting off a career, can one day purchase a home?
If you’re just starting out what you really want to work on is having good credit and to save up for a deposit. A typical deposit can be as little as 3% up to 20% depending on what kind of mortgage you take. There are so many types of loans out there that the best advice would be to speak to a mortgage broker. Once you’ve determined how much you’re qualified for, you can start looking! If you are self-employed, you need to have been in business for at least 2 years.
Many of my friends are interested in real estate. What advice do you have for aspiring real estate agents?
Treat people the way that you would like to be treated and always have your clients best interest at heart.
CLIENTS ASK DORIS
Who inspires you?
Individuals who follow their dreams no matter what they are. My parents and in-laws were immigrants fleeing Castro and Hitler respectively… looking for a better way of life. The courage they showed in leaving their countries to come to America without knowledge of the language or any real contacts is incredible to me.
What’s your favorite flower?
I LOVE oriental lilies. Their beauty and fragrance are intoxicating.
Gorgeous oriental lilies growing at Doris’ garden.
What is your favorite hostess gift?
It depends who it’s for. I try to pick something that reflects the hostess’ style.
What was the best surprise you ever received?
It’s a tie!! The first was when I was about 8 years old. There was a knock at the door and who was there? My brother who had been in the Army and I hadn’t see in a long time. I was so happy I think I must have looked like a puppy happy to see its human. The second was when my husband handed me a travel wallet with Swedish currency in it. We had won a contest to go to Sweden through our business and he was sending me. It was my first trip abroad.
What is your Favorite Room in your house?
My kitchen! I love it because it is open to pretty much all the other rooms in the house plus the garden.
Oskar smells something good in the kitchen. Following a “Best Surprise” along side Gil and Andres, Doris’ brother.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I love to read, dance, garden, go on playdates with my dog Oskar and car rides with my husband Gil.
